UNITED WAY OF TRUMBULL COUNTY PROGRAMS
United Way of Trumbull County implemented the Ready Set Go initiative during the summer of 2014. This initiative is a continuum of programing that reaches children from birth to age 8, each designed to increase the number of Trumbull County children reading at grade level by grade three, with an emphasis on children from low-to moderate- income families.
Students entering first grade and second grade participated in programming to address reading and phonics, math, social-emotional wellness, and visual and perceptual motor skills. Books and activities centered around bugs and dinosaurs to keep the kids engaged while learning.
Starting school at any time can cause anxiety but for kids entering kindergarten, it can be an overwhelming experience. Readiness kits, resources, and summer programming help ease the transition for both kids and parents.
Food, clothing, hygiene items, school supplies and and other essentials are provided to support local students. United Way also places fridges in schools to offer kids healthier, fresher foods.
The United Way of Trumbull County, Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, and the City of Warren have partnered to bring a StoryWalk to Perkins Park! A StoryWalk is an excellent outdoor family activity that combines movement with reading.
The Born Learning Trail is a series of 10 interactive signs that offer fun, active learning activities for young children and their families. It helps parents, caregivers and communities create quality engagement opportunities when out on a stroll or visiting a local playground. Check out the trail in Perkins Park!
