United Way of Trumbull County is recruiting Tax Prep Volunteers to provide free,
basic income tax preparation for families and individuals making $58 K or less.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Many for-profit tax preparation services are expensive; some entail predatory loans and deceptive practices.

Families count on their refund.

The Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit helps move families and children out of poverty.

Tax returns are required to access student financial aid, health insurance premium credits, home mortgages and many government benefits.

Free Tax Prep helps to keep more dollars in the community.
WHAT CAN A VOLUNTEER DO TO HELP?
Volunteers are needed to serve in the following select areas:

Greeters
-
Screeners
-
Hosts
-
Tax Preparers
-
Reviewers
-
Coaches
-
Interpreters
-
Site Coordinators
HOW MUCH OF MY TIME IS NEEDED?

Training is available in November, December and January.

You can volunteer 3-4 hours on a weeknight or Saturday; weekday daytime hours are also available.

Volunteers are asked to work at least 3-5 shifts during tax season.

Tax season is January 20 through April 17, 2018.
HOW MUCH TRAINING IS REQUIRED TO BECOME CERTIFIED?

Volunteers become certified through an IRS test provided online by Ohio Benefits Bank.

Training is available throughout November, December and January.

Both online and in person training are offered.

Certified volunteers are protected from liability.

CEU’s may be available for CPA’s, CFA’s and attorneys.
